I recently discovered a great book on Jazz guitarists, Voices In Jazz Guitar by Joe Barth. Very extensive interviews with most of the guitarists currently performing. I really enjoyed the Pat Metheny chapter. Topics included favorite recordings (own and other guitarists or musicians, technical details and much more. Chapter on Gary Burton and his favorite guitar players talks a lot about Pat. Great read and highly recommended. May be hard to locate a copy, but worth the chase. |

Gary Burton’s chapter is an excellent read as he talks a lot about Pat. He has had many great guitarists in his band
from Larry Coryell to Julian Lage. Gary and Pat had a very special relationship and Pat said that being in Gary ’s band
meant the world to him. I spoke to Gary after a gig in Chicago and when I mentioned that Pat told me he learned a
lot from Gary, Gary said he learned a lot from Pat. The book is worth finding and is a great read.

If you check out the Index, Pat is probably listed the most and mentioned by other guitarists as an influence or in
their top three Jazz recordings. Check it out.

Hey Marc--Thanks for the heads-up on this one. Hadn’t heard of it till now. There seem to be a number of copies at Amazon, but I’m going to try to get a loaner via the library system.
