As Sixty-Six is quickly becoming one of my favorite songs on From This Place, I noticed something really neat. I was
trying to pin down the rhythm at approx. 4:25. Someone certainly correct me if I’m wrong, but it sounds like
they’re playing this:
1-2-3-4-5-6
1-2-3-4-5
1-2-3-4
1-2-3
1-2
1
Maybe it’s notated differently - but if this is correct, I gotta say this sounds, and looks VERY cool. |

Pat turns 66 this year. Since he has talked about this album as a culmination of his whole life in music, I’d put my
money on that explaining the title.

Check out the main theme from "As It Is" (opening track from "Speaking Of Now") - it can all be counted out in 4/4
but the phrasing is 6 beats, 5 beats, 4 beats, 3 beats, 2 beats, and ends with a bar of 4. Peace from Porkopolis...

"Sixty-six" is also my favorite track on this new album. My first impression of it’s rhythmic feel reminded me of "Last Train Home". I think it would great if Pat did a From This Place tour accompanied by a full string section!
On another topic, I keep reading that Pat has several other recording projects "in the can". Hopefully, at least one forthcoming album features Pat in the Trio format. It’s been too long since Day Trip, and 99>00 along with Question and Answer, deserve more companion pieces, not discounting Rejoicing and Bright Size Life.

No wonder it didn’t work when I tapped my toes!

Sorry to self-reply but I realized the formatting didn’t come out like I hoped... To put it a different way, the pattern
is:
6-tuplet
5-tuplet
4-tuplet
etc.
It counts down - 6 ,5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
