I would be interested in your estimates and calculations of Pat’s travels in the last 42
years ……..Total travel miles, number of concerts, and number of countries |

Last week I received the December Downbeat (Readers Poll issue). Pat was #1 Guitarist and Side-Eye NYC was Record
Of The Year. Great article/ interview with Pat and he has extensive plans for 2023 & 2024. Looks like he is taking the
rest of this year off. Another Side-Eye tour with most recent line-up, Side-Eye record with about 30 musicians under
30 years old on Pat’s radar, a solo record and tour for "quiet electric guitar, and in 2024 a project with a collaboration
of several European orchestras performing with his new trio. I am sure has has other plans and projects yet to be announced.
The one given is he is not slowing down.

I just went to the PMD and did a concert count for 1977. I counted shows not days (2 shows per night frequently) and
came up with 254 shows that year. A rough guess would be it was probably in 155 days. The early years of the PMG I
think they played only in the US (maybe some gigs in Canada). I don’t think there is any musician in any genre that
has toured as much per year as Pat.

patsfan : Did you calculate flying to non-US shows. It would be interesting to see how many miles they put on his tour
bus. No easy way to calculate mileage, easier to count shows since first PMG gig. The Pat Metheny Database website
has a great Concert Chronology that goes back into his years in Lee’s Summit MO. I remember he would play at
Amazingrace four nights in a row, two shows per night and twice in a year back in 1977 & 1978.

Marc, Naut and Frank. …. I agree, an almost impossible question to get close to
estimations ….. I sort of traced these concerts and came up with a thought a
reasonable estimate of. 200 miles per concert …. It’s 238,000 miles to the moon,
and conservatively estimating 130 concerts a year, that’s 260, 000 miles. So every 2
years Pat goes to the moon and back. Wow! So, since 1980, Pat has been to the
moon and back 20 times..!! If Elon Musk wants moon music, there it is…..
Correct me if my calculations are way off ……

Some statistics from Pat’s 2021/2022 World Tour. The tour started 9/15/2021 and ended on 10/15/2022 after 164
shows. 2022 was mostly making up for shows cancelled in 2021 due to the COVID shutdown, in Europe and South
America. During the tour Pat had two versions of Side-Eye, FTP quartet and another version of the Pat Metheny Trio
(bass and drums). If I remember right, Pat was planning to record a studio Side-Eye record. I expect to hear soon
about his next tour in 2023. Too bad Gary Burton retired, they could have done a Gary Burton Quartet 50th Reunion
Tour. Maybe Burton can do a Tom Brady and come out of retirement for one last tour.

patsfan : It probably require a Super-Computer at MIT or NASA. Have you ever checked out the Pat Metheny
Database: Concert Chronology? It would take a lot of time to review each year for number of shows and countries.
Total mileage would be equal to trip to the Moon or Mars. Both may be on future tour schedules for Pat and live
record (Pat Metheny : Live From The Moon).
