I was fortunate enough to be back in Lausanne/CH - 20 Oct ’23 for the day job, and had a chance to see and hear Kurt Rosenwinkel for the very first time....at the legendary Chorus Jazz Club there in the town centre. I know Kurt has been mentioned several times in the AG... and hands up/full disclosure...he was an unknown quantity to me as I stay with the same guitarists I have come to love and appreciate over the decades. Kurt was part of a 4tet with Basel born pianist/composer Jean-Paul Brodbeck who wrote a project of Chopin songs re-imagined...and he wrote them specifically with Kurt in mind to be in a band to perform them. I must say it was one of the most amazing gigs I have ever seen, for sure for all the gigs that I have been to at Chorus Jazz over the decades now. I won’t cast any details of what I heard and witnessed, but to my USA AG friends please catch this gig if you can when they come to NYC, Philly, and Chicago...beginning 07 Nov at the Village Vanguard/NYC....

Bookmark and Share Super MarcNebo, the young acoustic bass player is Lukas Traxel - from Basel, Switzerland - and I was very impressed by his command of his instrument. Kurt’s phrasings at times reminded me of some of my guitar heros (Pat, Alan H)... as well as Jean-Paul’s phrasings at times reminding me of Lyle... but this being Chopin pretty sure that Lyle was influenced by that special composer...

Bookmark and Share I will be going to the Chicago show in November. Thank you for the tip, sounds like it was special and excellent. I haven’t seen Kurt in several years.
