I’m super excited to see Mike Stern next weekend in Montreal. He and Pat are just so awesome. But I’d really
appreciate some advice from all you sage Garagers - who would be your recommendations for listening from the
next generation (and beyond), on guitar? Thankfully Pat and Mike are still playing, recording and touring, despite
their age (!) - am wondering who else is out there that you all would suggest to someone who enjoys Pat and Mike so
much - thank you! |

I can also recommend Kurt Rosenwinkel. I saw him live in Lausanne, Switzerland in the Chorus Jazz Club with his The
Chopin Project co-written with Jean-Paul Brodbeck...Oct 2023.....great gig and Kurt has the chops...Jean-Paul’s piano
playing had shades of Lyle going on at times.....wonderful....

Hardly "sage," but here are just a few that come to mind: Jonathan Kreisberg (!!), Gilad Hekselman, Mary Halvorson, Hristo Vitchev, Jacob Young, Joel Harrison, Tiny Tim, & Elmo. A couple of obvious older pickers include Kurt Rosenwinkel & Wolfgang Muthspiel. Some of these players are on Pat’s recommendations lists.

Julian Lage is an extremely good and versatile guitarist. I’ve caught him live in various groupings from solo to a
quintet. Also, you need to check out Pasquale Grasso. Pat said Pasquale is "the best guitar player I’ve heard in maybe
my entire life." I saw him live with his trio backing vocalist Samara Joy. I have his excellent solo record and his most
recent record with his trio got a great review in DownBeat.
