Today, another jazz legend has left us, Jack DeJohnette. I caught DeJohnette live many times, but only once with Pat Parallel Realities tour with Pat, Jack, Dave Holland and Herbie Hancock. Mostly saw him in the Keith Jarrett Trio. Always a great show and distinct sound. He signed one of my three drumheads at the Detroit Jazz Festival several years ago. I was hoping to see him perform again, but haven’t seen any mention of his name until today.

Bookmark and Share The first two records with Jack DeJohnette that come to my mind are Pat Metheny 80/81 and Michael Brecker’s Pilgrimage. IMO both excellent examples of how DeJohnette’s drumming pushed the other musicians and made the record a masterpiece.
