Last night I went to my second show for this year. I heard Cecile McLorin Salvant duets with pianist Sullivan Fortner (Roy Hargrove Quintet). It was an excellent show of show tunes, jazz standards, original music and more. The encore was Paul Simon’s An American Song, but she changed some of the lyrics to make it about the slave ships coming to America. It was a very emotional song for her and the audience. I believe everyone there for the show and Cecile were amazed by Sullivan’s solos and accompanying. If you can check out both of them. |
